It can be quite a task to go through the stages of buying the right type of childrens bedroom furniture. The term stages meaning from infancy through the school age child. It can be daunting to find the right furniture considering safety, price, and aesthetics. The importance of each of these varies from parent to child.

Its a no brain-er when it comes to infants. Most nurseries consist of a bassinet or crib, a changing table, and other furniture accessories. Most people choose to provide a crib, however, the crib must meet certain specifications for it to be considered safe. The infant cannot make choices regarding safety so it is up to the parents to do their homework.

There have been incidences where infants heads have gotten stuck between mattress and crib or between crib slats. A good way to prevent such tragedies is to ensure that the mattress fits tightly inside the crib. The slats of the crib should measure no more than 2 3/8 inches to avoid becoming stuck.

Before long, the transition from crib to bed needs to be made. This transition can be made much safer by installing side rails to the new bed to avoid falls out of bed. Remember, the child has gotten used to the safety net that the crib had provided so he or she will need some time to build awareness to not fall out of bed.

As years go by, children, especially ones with siblings, love the idea of having a bunk bed. If a bunk bed is chosen, it is important to make sure that the one purchased has a strong side rail on the top bunk, as well as a sturdy ladder since young children can be tough on their furniture.

Another common piece of furniture in a child’s bedroom is the dresser. As children mature they become more autonomous and want to do everything themselves, whether they can reach or not. They always seem to find a way. A child will want to find a way to get to his or her socks in the top drawer of her 4-drawer dresser by climbing it, causing it to fall. An easy way to prevent this kind of accident is to purchase a dresser that is two drawers high where the child can more easily reach.

Decorating a child’s bedroom is fun and can be done at a fairly thrifty price. Most peoples purchases childrens bedroom furniture are economy-driven but it is so very important to put safety first when making the final decision.
