Child safety gates play an important role in protecting your child from entering into harmful spaces like stairs or balconies. One can choose a child gate from the various types that are available according to their requirements. However all these gates are intended for use for only those children who come in the age group of 6 months to 24 months.

Child safety gates usually are segregated into two types depending on their method of installation. They are usually hardware mounted or pressure mounted. We will discuss in detail about the two models of gates which will help you to choose a model that best suits your needs.

Gates – Pressure Mounted

Pressure Mounted gates are those which keep the gates in place by creating pressure against door frames or walls. Typically, these gates have a pair of sliding panels which are adjusted in such a way that the gate fits into a gap and has a particular locking mechanism like that of a pressure bar which helps in holding the gate in its place without using any kind of hardware. These gates also have vertical slats that are made of steel, wood or aluminum which has rails both on top and bottom.

Installing pressure mounted gates are very easy because they do not need any drilling. As a result of this, it does not leave any lasting holes on the ramparts. To lock them onto a place, we need to just alter the gate and clutch the locking device to the door frames or walls

Pressure mounted child safety gates are suitable for places like between rooms that have floors at the same level or at the bottom of the stairs which are less hazardous. It is strongly advised not to use these gates on top of the stairs.

Hardware mounted gates

While pressure mounted gates can be removed any time, hardware mounted gates are permanent ones that are fixed using the brackets and screws to the studs behind the walls or door frames. It offers maximum protection to a child by confining him to a particular area. These gates have vertical slats that are made of enamel-coated steel, wood or aluminum with rails on top and bottom.

Installation requires some skill as you have to drill holes to fix the gate in place. If there is no wood frame then you might have to drill through the wall to reach the wood frame inside. Hardware mounted gates can be removed when they are not needed.

Hardware mounted child safety gates provide maximum security and so are best suited for top of the stairs. Most hardware mounted gates swing open in only one direction for added safety and some have options for you to choose the direction of swing.
